As content creators, we often find ourselves stuck in a rut, struggling to come up with fresh ideas that resonate with our audience. I’ve been there too, especially during my early days on LinkedIn.

But a simple piece of advice I stumbled upon changed the game for me, helping me generate an abundance of content ideas with ease. Let me share how I turned this advice into a powerful content generation system.

Jose Rosado’s Content Expansion Strategy

It all started when I came across a tweet by Jose Rosado, a content creator known for his practical advice. He shared a straightforward yet effective method for expanding on a single topic. The idea was to approach a topic from different angles, such as:

  • Tools
  • Myths
  • X vs. Y comparisons
  • Reasons
  • Quick tips
  • Case studies
  • Observations

This list wasn’t exhaustive, but it provided a solid foundation for content ideation.

Turning Advice into Action: My 4-Step Process

1. Creating a Prompt

The first step was to take Jose’s advice and turn it into a usable prompt. I crafted a simple instruction that asked for content ideas based on these categories. This prompt became the seed for my content generation process.

2. Building a Custom GPT

As I found myself using this prompt more frequently, I realized its potential as a standalone tool. So, I took it a step further and created a custom GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) specifically for this purpose. This AI-powered tool became my go-to resource for quick content ideation.

3. Leveraging High-Performing Posts

Whenever one of my posts performed particularly well, I saw it as an opportunity. I’d take the core idea from that post and feed it into my custom GPT. The result? 54 fresh content ideas related to the original topic. This approach allowed me to build on concepts that had already proven successful with my audience.

4. Curating and Developing Ideas

With 54 ideas at my fingertips, the final step was to review and select the most promising ones. I’d pick an idea that resonated with me and aligned with my content strategy, then develop it into a full-fledged post or article.

The Power of Content Repurposing

This method isn’t just about generating new ideas; it’s a powerful way to repurpose content. By expanding on successful posts, I’m able to:

  • Add depth to topics my audience has shown interest in
  • Create content clusters around key themes
  • Maintain consistency in my messaging
  • Save time on ideation and focus more on creation

During my time living in China, I learned the value of building relationships and adapting to new environments. This content strategy reminds me of those lessons — it’s about nurturing ideas and adapting them to different formats and perspectives.

Practical Application: A Real-World Example

Let me share a quick example of how this works in practice. A few months ago, I posted about overcoming challenges while working remotely in Ecuador during frequent power outages. The post resonated well with my audience of entrepreneurs and professionals.

Using my custom GPT, I generated dozens of related ideas:

  • Tools: “5 Essential Tools for Maintaining Productivity During Power Outages”
  • Myths: “3 Myths About Remote Work in Challenging Environments”
  • X vs. Y: “Working from Home vs. Co-working Spaces: Navigating Unreliable Infrastructure”
  • Quick Tip: “How to Set Up a Backup Power System for Your Home Office”
  • Case Study: “How a Digital Nomad Team Overcame Daily Power Cuts to Launch a Successful Product”

These ideas allowed me to create a series of posts that built on the original concept, providing value to my audience from multiple angles.

The Takeaway: Simplify Your Content Creation Process

This approach has transformed my content creation process. It’s not about reinventing the wheel every time; it’s about finding smart ways to expand on what works. By building systems and frameworks rather than relying on templates, I’ve been able to maintain consistency and quality in my content output.

Remember, the key is to focus on execution. Don’t get caught up in perfecting every idea. Instead, use this method to generate a wealth of options, then choose the ones that resonate most with you and your audience.

P.S. Curious to give this method a try? Drop a comment with a topic you’d like to expand on, and I’ll share a few ideas generated using this technique. Let’s collaborate on creating engaging content!
