5 months ago, I revamped my social strategy.

Less broadcasting, more connecting.

And you know what? It’s working. But before we dive into that, let’s talk about why most social media strategies are complete garbage.

The Problem With Your Social Media Game

You’re probably doing it all wrong. How do I know? Because I’ve seen it a thousand times. People are:

  • Showing off achievements like some self-absorbed prick
  • Posting resume updates and awards like anyone gives a shit
  • Maintaining a formal tone that makes them sound like a corporate robot

Sound familiar? Yeah, I thought so.

The Real Secret to Social Media Success

Here’s what I did instead:

  1. Tailored content and real conversations Not just broadcasting my thoughts into the void. Actually engaging with people. Novel concept, I know.
  2. Being authentic aka not being a fake ass. People can smell bullshit from a mile away. Stop trying to be perfect.
  3. Sharing a mix of personal and professional insights Because guess what? You’re a human, not a LinkedIn bot. Act like it.
  4. Offering stories behind achievements and lessons learned The messy truth, not the polished bullshit. People want to see the struggle, not just the triumph.
  5. Listening more than talking Another novel concept for most “influencers”. Try it sometime.

The Results? They Speak for Themselves

  • Engagement rates are climbing (because I’m actually saying something worth a damn)
  • I’m enjoying social media more than ever before

Why? Because it’s real. It’s me. Not some carefully curated online persona.

The Brutal Truth About Social Media Strategies

Most of them are complete garbage. They’re all about:

  • Posting at the “right” time
  • Using the “perfect” hashtags
  • Following some guru’s magic formula

But you know what? That’s all surface-level nonsense.

Real social media success? It comes from being genuine. From actually giving a shit about your audience.

It’s not about broadcasting. It’s about connecting.

Why Most People Won’t Do It

Here’s the kicker: it’s not even that hard. You just have to:

  1. Be yourself (flaws and all)
  2. Share real insights (not just regurgitated “thought leadership”)
  3. Actually engage with people (shocking, I know)

But most people won’t do it. Why?

Because it’s scary as hell. It means being vulnerable. It means admitting you don’t have all the answers.

But guess what? That’s exactly what people want to see.

They’re tired of the polished BS. They want real. They want authentic.

The Challenge: Get Real or Get Out

So here’s my challenge to you:

Stop trying to be perfect on social media. Start being real.

Share your struggles. Your failures. Your doubts.

Because that’s what makes you human. And that’s what people connect with.

Not your awards. Not your job title. Not your carefully crafted posts.

YOU.

The Bottom Line

Are you ready to cut the crap and get real on social media?

Or are you going to keep playing it safe and wonder why no one’s engaging with your content?

The choice is yours.

But remember: In a world full of fake influencers and corporate bullshit, being real is your biggest advantage.

Use it.

A Final Thought

Almost half a year into this new strategy, and I’m enjoying social media more than ever before. Why? Because it’s not about numbers or metrics or vanity metrics.

It’s about real connections. Real conversations. Real value.

And at the end of the day, isn’t that what social media was supposed to be about in the first place?

So, are you ready to get real? Or are you going to keep hiding behind your polished online persona?

The choice is yours. But I know which one leads to real success.
